Project Management for the Unofficial Project Manager®

Many of today’s knowledgeable workers have quietly slipped into the role of the unofficial project manager. Unless they develop basic project management skills, they may not know how to handle various challenges that arise, such as managing expectations, keeping team members engaged and accountable, tracking project progress, and meeting deadlines. The result? High levels of stress and inconsistent results.

With innovation happening more than ever, the new agile project economy requires more and more people across organizations to manage projects successfully. The problem is very few people receive formal training on how to do it. With best practices from agile and waterfall project management, learners will be equipped with the mindset, skillset and toolset to engage team members who may or may not report to them in a way that inspires them to volunteer their best efforts.

Success starts with the core agile principle of value - a project must deliver value to an organization. Once value is established, it is people who make projects successful through a consistent process. Project Management for the Unofficial Project Manager®, builds a learner's confidence to consistently start and finish high-value projects on time and with quality.

The full-day course will provide you with the following outcomes:

  • Optimize five fundamental project phases: Scope, Plan, Engage, Track & Adapt and Close.
  • Be able to utilize a consistent process to drive the finish of a high-value project on time with quality
  • Model five leadership behaviors to keep teams engaged and accountable for results: Listen First, Demonstrate Respect, Clarify Expectations, Extend Trust, and Practice Accountability.
  • Build strong informal authority that inspires team members to consistently volunteer their best efforts to the project under any conditions.
  • Create shared expectations with key stakeholders, identify and plan clear deliverables and risk strategies, adapt to change with flexibility, and close projects with success.
  • Be able to positively influence others and proactively engage them to drive a clear project scope, model openness and agility to change, and ensure the project finishes under any conditions.
